Welcome to the web page for the Seoul Shambhala Buddhist Meditation Group.
If you are interested in learning about meditation and live in Seoul, South Korea then why not consider coming along and joining us for a session?
Shambhala Buddhism is an international community of practitioners of meditation founded by the late Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and now under the guidance of his son, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
The Seoul Shambhala Buddhist Meditation Group offers instruction and on-going guidance in the practice of sitting meditation in a small group format. We also study a Buddhist or Shambhala book (read more about Shambhala below) and during the meeting discuss how the teachings relate to our lives and how we combine our meditation and practice with our everyday lives.
The teachings of Shambhala encourage us to view the dharma in a personal way and to look deeply into how we can apply the teachings to the difficulties of our life. Unless we are able to see the dharma within the container of our own lives and experience, Buddhism can become just another intellectual pursuit or hobby that has little power to reveal our genuine hearts and allow us, individually, to connect with our own gentleness and compassion towards ourselves and be able to share these qualities with those around us.
This gentleness and compassion exists within everyone of us and is our birthright as human beings. Through the study of the Shambhala (and Buddhist) teachings, we can begin to glimpse the intrinsic goodness that exits within ourselves and those around us.
The group meets on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th (and 5th, if there is one) Sunday of every month between 1:00 – 3:00 pm (on the 3rd Sunday, a practice-only day, we meet from 1:00 – 4:00 pm) at Mulmoi yoga centre near Sadang subway station (lines 2, 4). For full contact details and directions from Sadang subway station, call Mark 010 9035 9742 or CMT 010 7299-9764.
We also act as a link to other centres and retreat facilities offering further in-depth opportunities for practice and study, allowing people to further explore the path of meditation and how it relates to their life.
For in-depth information on Shambhala Buddhism please see our main website at Shambhala International which contains a treasure of information on Shambhala and has a series of teachings on line in video or text format.
We have various practice centres, mainly in the U.S., Canada and Europe (but a few in South America, Australasia and Southeast Asia) that allow practitioners to go deeper into their practice and study, such as Dechen Choling, our beautiful retreat facility in Limoges, France. Please check out their website and programs offered. Of interest they also have a video on their site of the land and an interview with Sakyong Mipham about Shambhala.
